Slovakia Follows Hungary In Halting Diesel Exports To Ukraine

Bratislava explained the decision by stopping the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo has ordered to stop exporting diesel fuel to Ukraine due to the shutdown of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

This is stated on the Slovak government's website.

The Slovak government has also decided to release oil reserves of 250,000 tons after supplies through Druzhba were halted as a result of Russian attacks.

Fitso said the government was taking such a step in order to save fuel stocks for domestic use.

"Slovnaft is stopping diesel exports to Ukraine and any other exports, and everything it will now refine at home in Slovakia will be destined for the Slovak market," the prime minister said.

He assured that there was no threat of shortages of fuel or other oil products in Slovakia. Instead, the release of oil from the state reserve will help Slovnaft survive until oil arrives from Croatia.

The transportation of Russian crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline through Ukraine has been halted since late last month due to large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Slovakia and Hungary have blamed Ukraine for the halt in oil transportation.

Before that, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said his country discontinues diesel shipments to Ukraine until the Druzhba pipeline resumes operation.
