This is the first time the former prince has been formally detained as part of a criminal trial.
The brother of Britain's King King Charles III, former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been detained, likely in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein case, reports BBC.
The former prince, who turned 66 on February 19, was detained at his Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where he has been living since leaving Windsor Palace.
Local police said they had arrested an unnamed man in his sixties and searched several addresses in Norfolk and the county of Berkshire as part of the investigation. The detainee remains in custody for the time being. The statement noted that his name and specific details of the case have not yet been released "in accordance with national guidelines."
The arrest is related to the alleged release of confidential information relating to Jeffrey Epstein, according to media reports. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor himself has previously repeatedly denied any involvement in wrongdoing and insisted on his innocence.
This is the first time the former prince has been formally detained as part of a criminal trial. Previously, there were checks and investigations against him related to his ties with Epstein, but until this moment no arrest was made.
Reminder, the former Prince Andrew in early February 2026 moved from his mansion Royal Lodge in Windsor to the estate on the royal estate Sandringham in Norfolk. So the British royal family tried to reduce public attention to the ex-prince after the publication of a new batch of documents in the Jeffrey Epstein case, which contain evidence of Andrew's possible sexual relations with women brought by Epstein to the UK. Andrew himself categorically denies all allegations.
He was previously stripped of the title of Prince and Duke of York in October 2025.
