The sanctions put an end to the dictator's hopes.

Kiev's decision to impose personal sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko has become the toughest political signal from Ukraine in all the years of war.

Why did Vladimir Zelensky decide to impose sanctions against the Belarusian dictator now? What has changed in the role of Belarus in the war against Ukraine? Such a question Charter97.org asked the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the party "Servant of the People" Oleh Dunde:

- Lukashenko's regime has finally confirmed that it is on the side of the war, actually supporting strikes on the territory of Ukraine - through its repeaters, through assisting Russian drones, which strike energy infrastructure facilities. This is a direct participation in the war.

- How painful are these sanctions personally for dictator Lukashenko and his entourage? What reaction should we expect from Lukashenko and the Kremlin?

- Lukashenko is a predictable dictator, no matter what they say. Most likely, he will come out with another lengthy interview accusing Ukraine of "not listening" and so on.

The sanctions are painful for him not in terms of money - he is completely dependent on Moscow in the financial sphere. They are painful for his reputation and painful for him as a possible negotiating platform with the US, with Europe and possibly in the future. In fact, this leveled his role to zero. On the part of Europe, he becomes definitively non-negotiable and turns into a full-fledged participant in the war.

Accordingly, he should be treated in the same way as the other participants in Moscow's aggression.

- Forbes published an article, in which it is said that Ukraine has to keep its reserves on high alert due to checks of Lukashenko's troops' combat readiness on the border. How real is the threat of aggravation or provocation from the Belarusian direction? What will be the response of the AFU to these actions?

- Everything is determined by the availability of real resources. You can show any theatrical skit, but if there is nothing behind this skit, then the attitude to it is corresponding. In this case, the Belarusian army - its combat effectiveness is close to zero. Accordingly, the reaction to it is the same - with a smile and a slight sarcasm.
