12 hours after his arrest.

Former Prince Andrew was released from custody nearly 12 hours after his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Sky News reports.

He left the police station in a car, the TV station points out.

The former prince, who turned 66 on February 19, was detained at his Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where he has been living since leaving Windsor Palace.

Local police said they had arrested an unnamed man in his sixties and searched several addresses in Norfolk and the county of Berkshire as part of the investigation. The detainee remains in custody for the time being. The statement noted that his name and specific details of the case have not yet been released "in accordance with national guidelines."

The arrest is related to the alleged release of confidential information relating to Jeffrey Epstein, according to media reports. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor himself has previously repeatedly denied any involvement in wrongdoing and insisted on his innocence.

The former Prince Andrew moved from his Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor to an estate on the royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk in early February 2026. So the British royal family tried to reduce public attention to the ex-prince after the publication of a new batch of documents in the Jeffrey Epstein case, which contain evidence of Andrew's possible sexual relations with women brought by Epstein to the UK. Andrew himself categorically denies all allegations.

He was previously stripped of the title of Prince and Duke of York in October 2025.
