The U.S. has the gold.

At the Olympics in Italy on February 20, the figure skating competition came to an end. The American Alice Lew won the girls' figure skating competition, according to the Olympics website.

The skater showed a nearly flawless free skating program on February 19, rising from third place after the short program and winning gold with a career-best score of 226.79 points. It is the first Olympic title for Team USA in women's figure skating in 24 years.

It is the second Olympic gold medal for Lew at these Winter Games, after she helped Team USA win gold in the team event in the first week of competition, the 2026 Olympics website noted.

Lew made her 2022 Olympic debut at age 16, but after winning a bronze medal at the World Championships a few weeks later, she ended her athletic career. She returned in 2024 after a two-season hiatus, saying she had fallen back in love with figure skating.

Silver and bronze were won by Japan's Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai.

The only Russian Adelia Petrosyan placed sixth. Thus, notes Sportbox, for the first time since 1960, Soviet and Russian figure skaters failed to win a single Olympic medal.
