Over the course of the all-out war, Russia has made several attempts to physically eliminate Vladimir Zelensky. As CNN reports, as part of these failed assassination attempts, Russian agents rented apartments near the Office of the Ukrainian President.

The publication emphasizes that eliminating the Ukrainian leader was a key element of Moscow's plan to quickly take over the entire country. Russia expected to realize this plan within days.

"He was to be captured or killed if he failed to escape first," CNN notes.

An unnamed source close to the president said, "Russian agents rented apartments in close proximity to the presidential residence with orders to eliminate him."
