The artist's attempt to flirt with Russia failed.
Lithuanian authorities have sent a clear signal to all artists who try to combine touring in Russia with performances in Europe.
This is reported by Delfi.
The Georgian rapper Gio Pika (Georgi Dzhioev), who is now banned from crossing the border of Lithuania until at least 2031, has fallen under strict sanctions.
The artist had planned to gather a hall in the Lithuanian capital on March 21, but the plans were spoiled by his own "track record."
Vilnius Mayor Valdas Bencunskas and the country's Foreign Ministry categorically opposed the artist's visit, citing undeniable facts:
Crimean past: Dzhioev has repeatedly performed in occupied Crimea, violating Ukrainian laws and European norms.
Business on blood: Even after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the rapper continued to actively tour in Russia - at least seven such performances were recorded.
Manipulation did not help
The organizers of the event tried to defend Gio Pika, using a rather dubious argument. They noted that the artist was born in Russian-occupied Ossetia, so he allegedly "cannot be considered a supporter of the Kremlin."
The Lithuanian Interior Ministry, however, rejected these arguments. Vladislav Kondratovich, the head of the Interior Ministry, signed an order: for "flirting" with the aggressor - a 5-year entry ban.
Lithuania has once again demonstrated that there is no place in Europe for those who legitimize the Russian occupation with their concerts. Now the Migration Department has officially placed Dzhioev on the list of undesirable persons, and his European tour has come under great question.
