Putin Officially Closed Access To Russians' Genetic Data

Moscow fears the West will create "ethnic biological weapons."
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has banned the mass transfer of Russians' biodata abroad.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Russian agency TASS.
It seems that Moscow seriously fears that the "insidious" West will steal the genetic code of the average Russian in order to create "ethnic biological weapons" against him.
To prevent this, Putin signed a law that effectively vetoes the transfer of the results of genetic and immunological research on Russian citizens to foreign companies and states.
In other words, the DNA of Russians is now a "state secret" and the property of the FSB, so now any mass data obtained in the study of the Russian population is now "off limits."
The changes were officially introduced into the law "On state regulation in the field of genetic engineering activities".
The following were banned:
collection and storage of genetic information by foreigners inside the Russian Federation;
sending and distribution of this data through the network;
providing access to databases to foreign legal entities and individuals.
Who "can" bypass the ban
Of course, for officials who still want to be treated in "rotting" Europe, loopholes have been left.
So, it will be possible to send biomaterial abroad if it is about the treatment of a particular patient or for the development of drugs under special permits.
In the grip of their own phobias
Official Moscow explains such steps by "defense of sovereignty," although experts see this as another manifestation of paranoia. You bet, world genetics is based on the free exchange of data, and Russia's attempts to "nationalize DNA" will only deepen its scientific and medical backwardness from the civilized world.
This will significantly slow down the development of modern methods of treatment for complex diseases in Russia itself.
It seems, however, that the Russian Federation has decided that it is better to remain without cures for genetic diseases than to give the world a chance to learn what the mysterious Russian soul actually "breathes" at the level of chromosomes.
