The ship is on its way.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he is working with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry to send a hospital ship to Greenland, which Trump wants to acquire.
The US president made the announcement in a social media Truth Social.
Trump made the announcement shortly before hosting a dinner for Republican governors at the White House, where he sat next to Landry and spoke with him. Last year, Trump appointed Landry as his special envoy for Greenland.
Trump shared an image on Truth Social created by artificial intelligence and said he was sending a hospital ship to Greenland.
"Together with the wonderful Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we will be sending a large medical ship to Greenland to help many sick people who are not getting the treatment they need. It is on its way," Trump wrote.
Trump's social media message was shared by the White House.
It is not yet known whether the vessel was invited by Denmark or Greenland, or which sick people need help.
Trump's post comes hours after Denmark's Joint Arctic Command reported the evacuation of a crew member in need of emergency medical care from a U.S. submarine in Greenlandic waters.
The crisis over the Arctic island erupted earlier this year over U.S. President Donald Trump's quest to control the island.
Although the U.S. president has since dropped his demand for full conquest of Greenland, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is convinced the crisis is not solved.
On February 11, NATO launched the Arctic Sentry military mission to strengthen its presence in the Arctic as part of promises to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has insisted that the region and Greenland in particular are not sufficiently protected.
And the day before, King Frederik of Denmark visited the island.
