New figures were added to the sanctions list.
The European Union has officially extended sanctions against Russia for another year - until February 24, 2027. The corresponding decision was adopted by the EU Council and published in the official journal of the European Union.
It is about the extension of the EU Council Decision 2022/226, adopted after the start of the war around Ukraine. The document states that the sanctions regime against Russia is extended: in Article 10, the former date - February 24, 2026 - is replaced by February 24, 2027.
The decision comes into force the day after publication, that is, February 24.
In addition, the EU extended the personal restrictions, including eight individuals in the Russian Federation in the sanctions list. These are heads of several correctional institutions, as well as representatives of the judicial and investigative system in a number of Russian regions, including Altai Krai, Orel and Leningrad regions and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
At the same time, the 20th package of new sanctions against Russia has not yet been agreed upon. It is blocked by Hungary because of the cessation of Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that until Ukraine resumes oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia, Budapest will not allow the EU to promote decisions important for Kiev.
