It became known who was under attack.
The United States Treasury Department has expanded the list of sanctions against Russia, including four individuals and three organizations, which are associated with cybercrime.
This reports the press service of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The sanctions list includes several Russian citizens - in particular Sergei Zelenyuk, Oleg Kucherov and Marina Vasanovich, as well as a citizen of Uzbekistan Azizjon Mamashoev.
In the United States, Zelenyuk is suspected of acquiring and then reselling at least eight cyber tools that belonged to the U.S. government and were stolen from a U.S. company before being sold without proper authorization.
The U.S. Treasury Department also imposed sanctions against Advance Security Solutions and Special Technology Services LLC FZ, registered in the UAE, as well as the Russian company MATRIX LLC.
According to the agency, these individuals are engaged in the purchase, sale and trafficking of undisclosed software vulnerabilities - so-called zero-day exploits that can be used for cyberattacks, information theft and the creation of ransomware.
The restrictive measures were imposed under the CAATSA law, which provides for sanctions in connection with intellectual property violations as well as cyberthreat-related activities.
