Trump Gave New Assignment To US Delegation For Talks With Ukraine And Russian Federation

Vice President J.D. Vance revealed the details.

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the American delegation that is participating in Ukraine's peace talks with Russia to "put an end to the killing" as soon as possible.

American Vice President J.D. Vance said this, according to the official White House social media account X.

Vance noted that the United States is very cautious in its negotiations with Ukraine and Russia. According to him, Kiev and Moscow have repeatedly stated during consultations about red lines that they do not intend to cross.

Vance believes that some progress has been made during the peace talks after all. On Thursday, February 26, the Ukrainian and American delegations will meet in Switzerland.

The parties plan to discuss Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and preparations for a new round of peace talks in a trilateral format (together with Russian representatives).

In January 2026, it became known that Washington and Kiev had prepared an agreement on the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, which envisages attracting $800 billion of investment in the Ukrainian economy.

It was expected that this document would be signed by Trump and Zelensky during the International Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, but this did not happen. For what reasons, it is not known.

Trump has previously repeatedly stated his desire to end Russia's war against Ukraine as soon as possible. For example, it was expected that Kiev and Moscow would sign a peace agreement this spring. The media also claim that the American president wants the hostilities on Ukrainian territory to end by the summer of 2026. This is linked to the fall elections to the US Congress.

It is assumed that in the summer, Trump's attention will shift from international problems to domestic American ones before the midterm congressional elections. Trump does not want to lose influence over Congress, otherwise his hands will be largely "tied" in domestic and foreign policy.

According to Axios, peace talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia have "reached an impasse." The parties cannot agree on the future of the Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by the Russian army.

There are currently three options for resolving the territorial issue: each side has its own option. The US, for example, proposes to create a buffer demilitarized zone in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, where there will be neither the AFU nor the occupying Russian army.
