The President of Ukraine recorded a special video.
On Thursday, February 26, Ukraine marks the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. On this day, according to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, and Russia's war against Ukraine began.
He said this in his Telegram channel. He said Moscow's responsibility for the war was one of the guarantees of security, one of the "strongest prerequisites for a lasting peace."
"The world, unfortunately, already had the opportunity to check this 12 years ago. The Russian war against Ukraine began with the occupation of our Crimea, and the world effectively turned a blind eye. The leaders of the time were not interested in the rallies and resistance in Crimea or Ukraine's feelings in general. The world advised Ukraine to keep quiet. That's why Putin believed he could afford a much bigger war and a tougher confrontation with the West," he said.
In addition, the head of state thanked the fact that Ukrainian allies do not recognize the peninsula as the territory of a terrorist state and stressed that this is how it should be.
"The Russian presence on our peninsula serves only war and nothing else. There must be peace, which means that Crimea is Ukraine, and the world must recognize this fact invariably," he summarized.
