What is known.
The Afghan military has launched operations against Pakistan on the Durand Line - in Khost, Paktia, Nuristan and some other areas in response to Pakistani attacks, TOLONews reported, citing the Afghan Defense Ministry.
The channel's sources said the Afghan military captured eight posts of Pakistani forces in Gorat district, Nangarhar province, Kunar province, on the other side of the hypothetical line.
Two days earlier, TOLOnews quoted Zabihullah Noorani, head of the Information and Culture Directorate of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, as saying that armed clashes had erupted in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistani troops opened fire on the movement forces in Shah Kot area of Nazyan district, to which the Taliban responded, Noorani said. The clashes stopped and there were no casualties among Taliban fighters.
The Afghan authorities' version diverges from Pakistan's statement. A spokesman for the country's prime minister, Mosharraf Zaidi, told Reuters that the Taliban were the first to open "unprovoked fire" along the border.
