US President Donald Trump has said he has several scenarios for further action in the operation against Iran, including a long-term campaign to "take control" of the country. He said this in a brief interview with Axios.

"I can go down the long road and take control, or I can end it in two or three days and say to the Iranians, 'I'll see you in a few years if you start rebuilding the country's nuclear capabilities again,'" he told Axios Today.

Trump also suggested it would take Iran "several years" to recover from the joint U.S.-Israeli strike, which he said followed a breakdown in talks with the country's leadership.

In the interview, the president cited the lack of progress in negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, as well as Iran's longstanding connection to attacks around the world. He also claimed that Iran has begun rebuilding some of the sites the U.S. struck last year, which he said had previously been "completely destroyed."

Trump did not give a specific timeline for the operation, saying it would depend on developments on the ground.
