Indians Ask Their Authorities To Rescue Them From Belarus

They were tricked into coming to our country.

Family members of four Indian nationals, who have been stranded in Belarus for nearly two months now, filed petitions with the Kanyakumari district administration on Monday, February 2, asking for their rescue, writes The Hindu.

The four men traveled to our country in search of jobs through a recruitment agency. According to a petition filed by Anita of Vizhunthayambalam, her husband T. Thangaswamy left for Belarus in December 2025 after a private agency from Coimbatore assured him of a job.

However, after almost two months of her husband's arrival in Belarus, he has not been provided a job, proper accommodation or food, the petition said. She therefore appealed to the authorities to take immediate steps to rescue him and return the money paid to the agency.

When The Hindu correspondent contacted Thangaswamy, he said the agency had initially promised employment in Israel. However, after receiving the money, the agency stopped contacting him. "Even after trying to contact them for about a year, we were eventually sent for unskilled labor in Belarus," he said.

He added that he and three others from Kanyakumari district as well as five others from other districts of Tamil Nadu, all hired through the same agency, were stranded in Belarus. Among them are M. Vibin Raj (41) from Verkilambi, J. Paul Nadar (52) from Tholichal and P. Jose (44 years old) from Punkarai - all from Kanyakumari district.

Along with them, P. Marimuthu (40 years old) from Villupuram district, N. Perumal (37 years) and Eswaran (47 years) from Virudhunagar district, S. Arul from Tirupattur district and R. Ramesh (42) from Erode district.

Thangaswamy said the agency was not giving clear answers to their queries and all nine were facing serious difficulties in an unfamiliar country amid heavy snowfall. He appealed to the government to initiate action and rescue them from Belarus.
