It is related to the use of labor of Belarusian political prisoners.
Alternative for Germany deputy Jörg Dornau was detained today during a session of the local parliament in Saxony. Police officers took him to a separate room for questioning. His office in the Landtag was searched, BILD reported.
There has never been such a start to a Landtag session before, the publication said. Police officers detained 56-year-old AdG MP Jörg Dornau. According to BILD, investigators took the politician to a separate room for questioning. In parallel, searches were conducted in his residential and commercial premises, as well as in cars near Leipzig.
The politician, who has long been known for his close ties to the Lukashenko regime, was taken out of the meeting hall immediately after his colleagues stripped him of his parliamentary immunity. He is accused of circumventing sanctions, while his reputation is shadowed by information about the use of political prisoners' labor in Belarusian fields.
The essence of the charges of the prosecutor's office in Leipzig is the violation of the law on foreign economic activity. According to the investigation, in 2022, Dornau tried to circumvent the ban on the supply of machinery to Belarus. He drew up documents to export a telescopic loader to Kazakhstan, but in fact the machine went to Belarus.
Dornau is an odious figure for Saxony because of his Tsybulka-Bel business. This is a huge 1,000-hectare farm in Belarus where onions are grown. Earlier, the site charter97.org reported that the fields of the German MP worked Belarusian political prisoners, who were sent there from local detention centers. The politician himself did not comment on these reproaches.
