Is Fitzo in jeopardy?
In Slovakia, the extra-parliamentary party "Democrats" has collected the necessary 350 thousand signatures to hold a referendum on early elections and the resignation of the government of Robert Fitzo.
The head of the party Jaroslav Nagy said this, reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to Pravda.
The collection of signatures continued from September 2024. In addition to holding early elections, the organizers of the referendum put forward a number of demands:
- the resumption of the Special Prosecutor's Office and the National Criminal Agency;
- the abolition of the lifetime pension for the current Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"This is a legitimate instrument of democracy. 350,000 citizens have sent a clear political message to the government that cannot be ignored. People are disappointed, angry and tired of lies and chaos," Nagy emphasized.
The party plans to collect a few thousand more signatures "for the reserve" by the end of February, after which it will officially hand them over to President Peter Pellegrini.
"People are fed up with Robert Fitzo, more than 70 percent of Slovak citizens are extremely dissatisfied with Robert Fitzo's government," Nagy said.
The party's deputy chairman Juraj Šeliga expressed hope that the president would not block the process in the Constitutional Court, but would listen to the will of citizens.
