Russia Refuses To Hand Over Zaporizhzhya NPP To Full U.S. Control

The issue of ZNPP is as key in the peace talks as the issue of territories.

Moscow has rejected a U.S. proposal under a peace deal for Washington's full control over the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which would have authorized the United States to distribute power between Ukraine and Russia.

Reuters reports Reuters.

"Russia has rejected a US proposal that would have seen Washington control the plant and distribute its electricity to both Russia and Ukraine," the publication reported.

It is known that Russia insists on its own control over the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. But the Kremlin suggests that Ukraine would thus receive electricity at low prices.

"Moscow insists that it controls the plant by offering Ukraine cheap electricity, a proposal that Kiev considers unacceptable," Reuters added.

The agency also notes that, according to sources, the issue of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is as problematic in peace talks as the issue of territories. It is on these two key points that it is most difficult to find a compromise with the aggressor, as Russia is firmly standing its ground and Kiev is not going to give in.
