The FSB blames Russian retirees for the assassination attempt.
Russia's FSB said it was able to identify a group of retirement-aged individuals who planned and carried out the attempt on the life of General Vladimir Alekseev, deputy chief of the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate) of Russia's General Staff.
The FSB reported the arrest of the direct perpetrator of the assassination attempt - Russian citizen 65-year-old Lubomir Korba. According to a statement from the Russian security service, Korba was detained by law enforcement agencies of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and handed over to Russia.
An "accomplice" of Korba, Russian citizen 66-year-old Viktor Vasin, was also detained in Moscow. Another accomplice - also a Russian citizen, 55-year-old Zinaida Serebritskaya - has absconded. The FSB insists she has "gone to Ukraine." However, the FSB is still searching for the "organizers" of the assassination attempt, calling the above three "executors."
In turn, the Russian Investigative Committee said that Korba is a native of Ukraine's Ternopil region, and that he "arrived in Russia in December 2025 on the instructions of Kiev's special services."
Alekseev underwent surgery and was brought out of an induced coma, Kommersant reported. The assassination attempt on the first deputy chief of the General Staff's GRU was carried out on the morning of February 6.
