The city is freezing.
The Russian city of Belgorod is failing to restore heating and power to hundreds of homes after Ukrainian strikes. Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov in his Telegram channel promised that children and lonely pensioners would be evacuated from the city. Gladkov said that repair work by power and heat engineers, which has been going on for two days, "does not lead to the long-awaited result."
He added that power supply has not been restored to 500 consumers. There is also no heating in 455 apartment buildings, 25 kindergartens, 17 schools, 9 polyclinics and 4 universities. Moreover, water is starting to drain from the system.
The governor said that those kindergartens, where there is heating, are switched to round-the-clock operation. Therefore, Gladkov suggested the citizens to leave small children there.
He also announced the evacuation of children from the city "to other regions of the Russian Federation":
"If you have children of school age: you leave, as in 2024-2025, your applications in the administration of the city of Belgorod, and we send children to other regions - to those places that are already familiar, such as the Republic of Crimea, and the adjacent regions - with the governors are now negotiating. We will submit applications to the Ministry of Emergency Situations to send our children on trains".
The Governor of Belgorod region also added that large families, families with disabled children and single pensioners also have the opportunity to "move to other regions" and advised to leave appropriate applications.
