Venezuela Has Released Dozens Of Political Prisoners

Since January, the number of prisoners of conscience released has totaled more than 380.

On Feb. 8, Venezuela released at least 30 political prisoners held under the regime of U.S.-captured Nicolas Maduro.

This is according to posts by Venezuelan opposition figures on social network X and the publication of Reuters.

Information about the release was released by opposition platform Comando ConVzla, affiliated with opposition leaders Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez. The data was also confirmed by human rights organizations.

A number of prominent members of the opposition movement have reportedly been released, including Juan Pablo Guanipa, who was arrested in May 2025, Freddy Superlano who was detained after the 2024 presidential election, and opposition lawyer Perkins Rocha. Also among those released was Rafael Tudares, a relative of opposition politician Edmundo Gonzalez.

The human rights organization Foro Penal reported that about 35 people had been released in Venezuela as of February 8, and more than 380 political prisoners have been released since the beginning of January.
