This is the first time the EU has proposed sanctions against third country ports.

As part of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, the European Union is going to include ports of third countries - in Indonesia and Georgia - for the first time, Reuters reported, citing a document handed over by the European Commission for approval by the EU countries. Restrictions will be imposed for operations with Russian oil.

The EU intends to include the port of Kulevi in Georgia and the port of Karimun in Indonesia in the package. In addition, 42 tankers, as well as banks from Tajikistan, Laos and Kyrgyzstan will fall under the bloc's sanctions. At the same time, the EU plans to lift sanctions on two Chinese banks.

Earlier, on February 6, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen disclosed that the new package of sanctions involves a complete ban on maritime services related to Russian oil supplies.

She said that 43 more vessels will fall under the sanctions. Thus, their total number will grow to 640.

The EU introduced the last - 19th - package of sanctions against Russia on October 23, 2025. The list includes a ban on LNG imports from 2027, measures against another 117 ships in the shadow fleet, as well as restrictions on Russian diplomats traveling through the association's territory.
