After the liquidation, Khamenei will be governed by an interim council.
Iran has appointed an interim supreme leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on Tehran.
It was reported by Iran's ISNA.
Temporary leadership and transition
The senior cleric Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has become Iran's interim supreme leader. According to the country's constitution, he has joined an interim leadership council that will serve as head of state until a successor is elected.
The council also includes President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei. The body will jointly lead the country during the transit of power.
Changes in IRGC command
The massive strikes also eliminated the top brass of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The death of Commander-in-Chief General Mohammad Pakpour is reported.
The new head of the IRGC is Ahmad Wahidi.
It is notable that he is wanted by Interpol at the request of Argentina. Vahidi is accused of involvement in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires. Then 85 people were killed and hundreds were wounded.
It is worth noting that the Corps is the most influential institution in Iran, which controls not only the military, but also political and economic processes, acting separately from the regular armed forces.
