Four crew members were injured.

Near the Musandam Peninsula in Oman, Iran attacked a tanker that is under US and EU sanctions for transporting Iranian oil. Four crew members were injured.

It was reported by Reuters.

Oman's Maritime Security Center said the attack came after previous drone strikes in other parts of the Persian Gulf country. The tanker was sailing under the flag of Panama.

The agency said it was the first time targets in or near Oman had been hit following a wave of strikes by Tehran on Gulf countries after joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran dragged the region into a new war.

The crew of the tanker Skylight, which consisted of 20 people (15 Indian nationals and 5 Iranians), was evacuated after the attack.

According to preliminary information, four crew members received injuries of varying degrees of severity.

The registered owner of Skylight is Sea Force Inc and it is managed by Red Sea Ship Management LLC.

In December 2025, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Red Sea Ship Management and Skylight, accusing the management company and its owner of operating a "shadow fleet" to transport Iranian oil products in the Persian Gulf.

Vessel monitoring service Tankertrackers.com described the Skylight as a small tanker that was mainly used to fuel other ships and had been anchored off the Musandam Peninsula since Feb. 22.

Oman's Musandam Peninsula shares with Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital strategic bottleneck through which about a fifth of the world's oil consumption passes

It is worth noting that Iran said yesterday it would block the strait.

Data monitored by Bloomberg show that some container ships have stopped or turned around while in transit. A number of international companies have already ordered their ships to stop passing through the strait.
