Tehran has proposed an unusual condition for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that any European or Arab country would get free passage through the Strait of Hormuz if it expels the ambassadors of the US and Israel.
This is reported by The Guardian.
According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, which quoted the IRGC, the unimpeded passage will begin today, Tuesday, March 10.
"These countries will have 'full freedom rights' to transit the strategically important waterway if they sever diplomatic relations with both Israel and the United States," The Guardian wrote, quoting the IRGC.
The publication also notes that hundreds of ships are now at sea on both sides of the strait as the oil and shipping markets watch for signs that ship traffic through the narrow corridor could resume.
It is worth noting that about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas shipments typically pass through the strait.
