The goal is to prevent the RF from seizing the initiative.
The Ukrainian military has several options for action in each direction. It is important not to let the Russians have the initiative and prevent their offensives.
The head of the General Staff's Main Operations Directorate, Major General Major General Alexander Komarenko, told RBC-Ukraine this in an interview.
Answering the question whether there are any operations that were planned by the General Staff earlier, but which did not take place for one reason or another, Komarenko emphasized that such work is carried out constantly.
"The work to find areas of action is going on constantly. And if some direction is chosen and worked out, but actions were not carried out there, it does not mean that they will not be carried out there in the future. For example, here are four folders with options for action in the directions that can be implemented and are waiting for their time," Komarenko said.
According to him, there were times when the military worked out options for action in one of the directions, but then it could not be implemented. Later, last year, we again returned to those developments, but as a result we acted in another direction.
"Our intelligence is working. In accordance with the actions of the enemy, we plan our defensive actions as well. If we do not possess the initiative and instead just fight back, sooner or later we will be finished off. That is why we are separately planning actions that will force the enemy to change his plans," the head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff added.
He also added that in those directions where he will attack - defensive actions are planned. In other directions - there will be actions that will force the enemy to act in a way he did not plan, in a way that is favorable to the AFU.
"And it will not necessarily be direct actions of troops, we plan asymmetric actions. There will be something that he does not expect," Komarenko emphasized.
