The ship was sailing in the Baltic Sea under a false flag.

Sweden has arrested the Russian captain of the dry cargo ship Caffa, which was detained near the city of Trelleborg last Friday.

It was reported by SVT.

A Russian citizen has been arrested on suspicion of using forged documents.

The prosecutor's office filed an arrest petition with the court in the city of Ystad.

"The man is suspected of showing several suspicious fake maritime certificates when the coast guard searched the ship," the statement said.

The vessel, which was detained by Sweden on March 6 in Baltic Sea waters, was flying a false flag and suspected of violating maritime law and the national law on ship safety because it was unseaworthy.

The cargo ship Caffa is under Ukrainian sanctions. According to the Ukrainian side, it was involved in the theft of grain from Crimea.
