The U.S. demands that the mines be removed immediately.

If Iran has mined the Strait of Hormuz, the United States demands the mines be removed immediately; unprecedented military consequences will follow if they refuse, US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social.

"If, on the other hand, they remove what may have been placed, that would be a huge step in the right direction," noting that the states have no intelligence to confirm the mines.

Senior CBS News White House correspondent Jennifer Jacobs previously reported that U.S. intelligence noticed signs of mines in the Strait of Hormuz. According to his information, the Islamic Republic is using small vessels, each of which can carry up to three sea mines, to do so.

After the U.S.-Israeli military operation began on Feb. 28, Iran announced that trade in the Strait of Hormuz was impossible until further notice. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officials reported that the Iranian Navy had full control of the strait. The IRGC also threatened to burn any vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
