The US president has revealed the true purpose of the bizarre rule.
US President Donald Trump has publicly admitted that he sometimes buys shoes for members of his administration. He also explained the true purpose of such gifts.
As CNN reports, the US president said this in an interview with host Brian Kilmeade.
Trump publicly acknowledged that he sometimes buys shoes for members of his administration - but denied reports that he does so en masse and at random.
What the media wrote
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Trump allegedly guessed his officials' shoe sizes and ordered aides to send them classic Florsheim shoes with notes.
The president denied the information, but called the shoes high-quality.
What Trump said
"As someone who has walked around for years in shoes that were unusable and not very comfortable, I enjoy it," he said.
The president said he offers to buy shoes for those on the team who complain of discomfort.
"It seems to be working out quite well. They look dressy and nice now," Trump noted.
Separately, he criticized sneakers in the office.
"I've never liked it when cabinet members wear sneakers. Sneakers are fine, but I don't want my cabinet members to wear sneakers, so I'm going to buy them a pair of shoes - it's a gift from Donald Trump," he explained.
Vice President J.D. Vance revealed back in December that Trump bought him and Secretary of State Marco Rubio "four pairs of shoes" because he wanted the country's leaders to look dignified.
According to the WSJ, the White House even joked about the habit. One official told the publication that some are wary of not wearing the gifted shoes.
Rubio has previously been photographed wearing noticeably large shoes from the president.
Times and Guardian wrote that other officials have received similar gifts - some of them privately complaining that they wear the president's shoes against their own preferences.
