Figures on retired teachers have disappeared from the Ministry of Education's reports.

Mathematics and computer science teacher Serhiy Olshevsky noticed that a table with data on the number of retired teachers who continue to work in the education system disappeared from the statistical reports of the Ministry of Education. He asked the ministry about the reasons for this, and the received answer was published on the portal eschool.by.

According to the teacher, the report as of September 1, 2019 provided information on the total number of retired teachers employed in the field of education. At that time, they numbered more than 17,300 people.

But already in the report for 2020, the wording has changed. Only the table "Number of working retired teachers and working student teachers" remained in the statistics. As a result, the number of retirees in the data has sharply decreased to about 9.1 thousand people, since only teachers were counted, not all teaching staff.

Olshevsky drew attention to this discrepancy and asked who the "remaining" retired teachers were and why they disappeared from the statistics. In the discussion in social networks suggested that we may be talking about educators, teacher-organizers, social teachers, psychologists and other specialists of the education system.

To get clarification, in January 2026, the teacher sent an official request to the Main Information and Analytical Center of the Ministry of Education. The ministry replied that the methodology of calculation has not changed, but confirmed that the table "Number of working retired teachers" has indeed ceased to be published since September 2020.

As explained in the GIAC, this decision is due to "solely to the official necessity within the framework of optimizing the structure of the prepared statistical compilations".
