"An Interesting Trend": The AFU Is Inflicting Colossal Losses On The Russians

The beginning of March became "black" for the occupiers.

In the second week of March 2026, Russian troops advanced only 31 square kilometers on Ukrainian territory, losing about 5,880 servicemen in the process. This proportion was one of the worst for the Russian army during the entire period of full-scale war. This was reported by Ukrainian military analyst Alexander Kovalenko.

According to his calculations, for every square kilometer captured, there are approximately 189 dead Russian military personnel. "The trend is quite interesting... And this is not me saying this - the numbers show it," the analyst noted.

The advancement indicator turned out to be one of the lowest not only compared to the previous month, but also in general since the beginning of 2026. The calculations did not take into account the territories that Ukrainian forces were able to retake during counterattacks during the week. If these data were included, the results of the Russian offensive would look even weaker.

In fact, as Kovalenko notes, the Russian army spends a resource comparable to about two and a half companies of personnel to advance just one square kilometer.

In total, during the first two weeks of March, Russian troops occupied about 43 km², which is almost half as much as during the same period in February. The total losses of the Russian army during this time are estimated at about 12,400 men. This dynamic makes the first half of March one of the most unsuccessful periods for Russian offensives in 2026.
