The French leader is ready to start work only when "the situation calms down."

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Paris will not participate in the operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz under current conditions.

This is reported by BFMTV.

Macron spoke about France's position in the conflict in the Middle East, saying that it "did not choose this war."

"We are not taking part in it and are taking a purely defensive position to protect our citizens and support our allies," he stressed.

The French leader added that Paris "will never participate" in operations in the Strait of Hormuz "under the current conditions." At the same time, he noted that he wants to guarantee freedom of navigation and maritime security in the region.

Macron said France will start operations "once the situation calms down." At issue is finding a solution to the issue of "freedom of navigation for both container ships and tankers" in the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that he has begun talks with India and a number of allies in the EU and the Middle East. At the same time, Macron said that these discussions would require "resolving conflicts with Iran, because under no circumstances can this be a violent operation."

In response to Macron's words, US President Donald Trump said that the French leader "will leave office very soon."

It is worth noting that the next presidential election in France will be held already in 2027. Macron will not be able to take part in them, because the constitution of the country prohibits to claim the highest office three times in a row.
