Details.
Oil tankers are once again passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's blocking of this sea route has not significantly damaged the U.S. economy. White House economic adviser Kevin Gassett said this in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, March 17.
"You're already seeing tankers starting to pass through the strait little by little, and I think that's a sign of how little Iran has left," he said.
Gassett reiterated the Donald Trump administration's stance on the imminent end of the war with Iran.
"We're very optimistic that this will end soon, and then within weeks of the end [of the war] there will be a noticeable impact on prices as cargoes of oil get to refineries," the official added.
The White House adviser also emphasized that U.S. actions in Iran coincide with China's interests.
"This is one of the cases where the goals of both countries are aligned, because we seek a stable global oil market. When this war is over, which will be soon, I'm sure they [President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping] will meet and have a lot to talk about, and hopefully the Chinese side will express some gratitude," he said." he said.
On March 14, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that several countries would send their ships to the Strait of Hormuz to ensure its unblocking.
But British Prime Minister Keir Starmer refused Trump's request to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz. Germany subsequently responded with a refusal as well.
