A successful operation was performed.
The U.S. military successfully attacked Iran's fortified missile sites along the country's coast near the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. used 5000-pound bombs (approximate weight - 2270 kilograms) to destroy underground shelters, and after the bombing declared the operation a success. This was reported by The New York Post, citing a report from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
"A few hours ago, U.S. forces successfully used several 5,000-pound deep penetration bombs against fortified Iranian missile sites along the Iranian coast near the Strait of Hormuz," the report said.
This large-scale bombing took place against the backdrop of the Israeli and U.S. war against Iran, effectively halting shipping along the important Persian Gulf sea lane. CENTCOM claimed that Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles located at the sites posed a threat to international shipping in the strait.
In comments to CNN, a U.S. official revealed that GBU-72 Advanced 5K Penetrator munitions were likely used for the strike. They were first used by the US in 2021. The US Air Force presented the weapon as designed to "destroy fortified, deeply buried targets."
