Cuba Refused To Discuss A Change Of Power With The U.S.

There was a rather bold statement from Havana.
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said Havana is not considering discussing with the United States issues related to the country's political system and the office of the president.
According to Reuters.
A tough stance on the power issue
The Cuban side has made clear the limits of dialog with Washington. According to Fernandez de Cossio, any topics related to the country's internal political system are non-negotiable.
"Cuba's political system is not negotiable, and certainly neither the president nor the position of any official is negotiable with the United States."
Reaction to rumors of a deal
In the past, media reports circulated about possible talks between the U.S. and Cuba, in which an economic agreement was allegedly being considered.
It was assumed that the easing of sanctions could be linked to changes in the country's leadership.
But in Havana, such assumptions were actually denied, emphasizing that such conditions are not being discussed.
What the parties are ready to talk about
At the same time, Cuba confirmed that contacts with the U.S. side continue. As the Foreign Ministry spokesman noted, the sides can indeed discuss a number of difficult but mutually important issues.
It is, in particular, about trade relations and financial claims, which remain the subject of negotiations between the two countries.
