The American leader made an unexpected statement.
The US is "very close" to achieving its goals in Iran and is considering winding down "military efforts" in the region.
"We are very close to achieving our goals as we consider winding down our massive military effort in the Middle East against the terrorist regime of Iran," US President Donald Trump wrote on his social media Truth Social.
He emphasized that after the Iranian threat is removed, the U.S. has no intention of protecting and controlling the Strait of Hormuz, but is willing to help other countries secure it there.
"The Strait of Hormuz should be protected and controlled, if necessary, by other countries that use it - the United States does not! If asked, we will assist those countries in their efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz, but it should not be necessary after the threat from Iran has been eliminated," Trump said.
In addition, Trump listed the targets of U.S. military action in Iran:
complete destruction of Iran's missile capabilities, launchers and everything associated with them;
destruction of Iran's defense-industrial base;
elimination of their naval and air forces, including air defense systems;
not allowing Iran to even come close to having a nuclear capability, and the continued U.S. readiness to respond quickly and forcefully to such a situation should it arise;
ensuring the highest level of protection for allies in the Middle East, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others.
