Robert Mueller, who was the US special prosecutor in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election, has died. He was 81 years old. This was reported by MS NOW, citing two sources.

The cause of Mueller's death was not disclosed. However, the reporters' interlocutors noted that he had suffered from Parkinson's disease for many years.

President Donald Trump wrote in Truth Social that he was glad Mueller died.

"Robert Mueller just died. Good, I'm glad he's dead. He can no longer harm innocents!" the American leader wrote.

From 2001 to 2013, Mueller was FBI director. In 2017, the US Justice Department appointed him as special prosecutor in the investigation into Russia's interference in the US election. The investigation involved 40 FBI agents and 19 lawyers. Over two years, more than 2,800 subpoenas were issued and more than 500 witnesses were interviewed. As a result, Mueller found no evidence of collusion between Donald Trump and the Russian authorities.
