More than 10 million people were left without light.
Cuba's energy ministry on Saturday evening, March 21, announced another island-wide power outage.
It was reported by CNN.
"At 6:32 p.m. (local time, there was a complete shutdown of the National Electricity System. Protocols are in place to restore its functioning," the ministry said.
The incident left more than 10 million people without light. Shortly before, the country's state-run energy campaign said it expected a 1.7 megawatt power shortage during the peak period on Saturday night.
It should be noted that Cuba was still recovering after the US began blocking fuel supplies from Venezuela earlier this year.
CNN notes that the shortage of oil from Mexico and Venezuela has all but halted tourism on the island, disrupted education, curtailed hospitals and prevented farmers from getting their produce to market.
