The sound was heard in Belarus as well.

On the night of March 23, an explosion occurred in Lithuania near the border with Belarus. The military assume that it was a drone, which could have come from our country. Details are given by the Delfi.

It can be assumed that a drone crossed the Lithuanian border and exploded last night in Varenna district, near the village of Lavisas, said a Lithuanian army spokesman, Gintautas Tsiunis.

"What kind of object it is, the investigation <...> will show, but clearly, we can say about it that an internal combustion engine was found. Such engines are used in some drones <...>. We can assume that it was a drone," Tsiunis reported.

An Army spokesman said eyewitnesses reported a hole in the ice of Lake Lavisas and debris lying around. A local resident said he heard an explosion around 3 a.m. And before that, the sound of a drone flying. He confirmed that some of the wreckage was found, others are looking for - collecting evidence that will be handed over to investigators. Among the finds is an internal combustion engine, which is used on drones.

"Where the object could have come from, we don't know yet. Of course, we are close to Belarus. We haven't investigated yet, but this is the most likely assumption. Of course, it's from this country," said Tsiunis.

He noted that the radars of the Lithuanian army did not notice the trace of the object. Nor did border guards hear it. So far, no explosives have been found at the site of the explosion.

Local resident's story - Shahed sound woke him up at night

According to Vytautas Lebednikas, the owner of a manor house in the village of Jurai about three kilometers from the scene of the incident, he was awakened at night by a sound similar to the buzzing of a Shahed-type drone.

"At 3.05 a drone woke him up, it flew very low over the manor <...>. About fifteen seconds later - a powerful explosion. So loud that even the windows shook. I went out to look: nothing, silence," the man told LRT radio station.

"In the morning I went to look one way and the other, where I could be. I arrived [at a place] three kilometers away, near the village of Lavisas, on the shore of the lake, and I see that the police and the rescue service are already standing there," he said.

The man also added that he managed to record the explosion on his phone, but he did not report the incident to the services until the morning:

"Nobody called. Maybe thirty people heard it. I don't know, an unusual thing."

The drone was heard in Belarus as well

We will remind, on the night of March 23, Belarusians heard a "buzzing sound" similar to the hum of a drone in different parts of the country. Discussions about it appeared in Threads, writes "Mirror".

The buzzing of a drone was also mentioned in posts about Hrodna. The mentioned Varena district of Lithuania just borders Grodno region. Lake Lavisas is about 20 km from the Belarusian border and 60 km from the Belarusian regional center.

It should be noted that Threads wrote that they heard a strange sound in Grodno around 3.30. In Lithuania, an eyewitness said about 3.05 local time (Lithuanian time is minus an hour from Minsk time) - that is, about half an hour later. The cruising speed of a drone of the Shahed type is about 150-170 km/h
