Belarusian opposition leader Mikalai Statkevich congratulated Belarusians on the Day of Will.

"I congratulate all Belarusians on the Day of Will!

108 years ago, our nation declared its desire and right to independence, to its own state by the Charter of the Rada of the Belarusian People's Republic.

Without this statement, there would be neither the BSSR, nor, most likely, the Republic of Belarus. There would not have been, judging by the purposeful imperial policy of Russification, our nation itself. The Rada of the BPR used its historical chance, but, unfortunately, not to the end. In that bloody time, the survival of a new state, even its diplomatic recognition by strong states depended on the presence of a significant military force.

Unfortunately, the founding fathers of the BNR could not organize such a force. It was not possible to transfer to their homeland from the Romanian front the Belarusian corps formed as part of the Russian army from the Belarusians who had fought in it. History teaches. It is important to critically assess its lessons and draw the right conclusions from them. So that Belarus does not disappear, so that our country lives.
