"The Bab al-Mandeb Strait is considered one of the strategically important straits of the world, and Iran has both the will and the capability to pose a very real threat to it; therefore, if the Americans want to come up with a solution to the Strait of Hormuz problem through foolish measures, they should be careful not to add another strait to their problems and predicament," he said.

08:44 US President Donald Trump has signed an order to deploy elite troops to the Middle East. According to media reports, we are talking about more than 1,000 US paratroopers, which should strengthen the US military presence in the region amid rising tensions. At the same time, the basis of the contingent may be made up of military personnel from the elite 82nd Airborne Division.
According to Sky News sources, orders for the military leadership have already been signed, and now the Pentagon is preparing documents for specific units and planning the logistics of the transfer.
There are no confirmed reports of a possible dispatch of a full brigade of more than 3,000 troops - so far we are talking about staff elements and individual ground units totaling up to 1,500 military personnel.
The redeployment could begin in the coming days. The decision comes amid a massive increase in the US military presence in the Middle East due to the escalating security situation and tensions around Iran.
The 82nd Airborne Division is the backbone of the US rapid reaction force. It is called the "Division Without Borders" because its men are able to land anywhere on the planet within hours.
The division was formed in 1917 and has since participated in almost every major conflict involving the United States:
World War II: The legendary Normandy Landing (D-Day), Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Ardennes.
Cold War and local conflicts: operations in Vietnam, Grenada (1983) and Panama (1989).
Modern era: large-scale participation in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was paratroopers of the 82nd Division who provided evacuation from Kabul airport in 2021.
Some Marine units and amphibious assault teams had already been deployed to the region earlier. According to media reports, the deployment of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Boxer landing group has been accelerated and diverted from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East.
The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit along with the Tripoli landing group are also being deployed to the region. Each such group has about 4,500 Marines and sailors and strong air and logistics capabilities.
