Europe calls on the international community not to forget about the situation in Belarus.

The European Union has congratulated Belarusians on the Day of Will, which is celebrated annually on March 25 to commemorate the declaration of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic in 1918. A statement by the European Commission's Directorate General for Enlargement and Eastern Partnership emphasized support for the people of Belarus in their quest for freedom and democracy, writes EU Neighbours East (translated by Charter97.org).

Day of Will is considered an important symbol of national identity and the struggle for independence. It was on this day that the Third Charter was adopted, proclaiming Belarus a sovereign state. At the same time, the white-red-white flag became a national symbol, which today is associated with the protest movement.

Despite the historical significance, independence was short-lived: already in 1919, the country's territory became part of the USSR. In modern Belarus, the official Independence Day is celebrated on July 3, which is due to the decisions of the authorities.

In recent years, March 25 has acquired a special political significance. Against the background of repression, economic problems and increasing dependence on Russia, Belarusians continue to celebrate this date with solidarity actions.

Rallies, cultural events and actions of support for political prisoners are held all over the world. The EU calls on the international community not to forget about the situation in Belarus and to support its citizens in the pursuit of democratic change.
