Trump: We're Protecting Europe From Russia, Even Though It Doesn't Affect Us

The U.S. president criticized the German chancellor for his stance on Iran.
US President Donald Trump reacted to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statement regarding the Iran war, calling it "inappropriate."
He said this on Thursday, March 26, during a cabinet meeting.
"I heard the head of Germany say: 'This is not our war on Iran,' I replied, 'Well, Ukraine is not our war either.' We gave aid, but Ukraine is not our war.' I thought it was a very inappropriate statement, but he made it, and there's no taking it back," the White House chief noted.
He also said that the U.S. is protecting Europe from Russia even though it's "none of their business."
"Think about it: we're there to protect Europe from Russia. In theory it doesn't concern us - we have an ocean, a big, wide, beautiful ocean, but we're there to protect NATO, to protect them from Russia, and they're not there to protect us. It's ridiculous, it doesn't make sense," Trump said.
In an earlier post on his social media network Truth Social, Trump wrote that "NATO countries have done absolutely nothing" to help the U.S. with Iran.
"The U.S. needs nothing from NATO, but 'never forget' this very important point," he added.
On March 20, US President Donald Trump said that "without the United States, NATO is a paper tiger" and criticized allies for not joining the US war against Iran.
"Cowards - and we remembered that!", Trump wrote in particular.
Trump also stated that the United States does not need the help of NATO allies in the war against the Iranian regime and added that he "always knew the Alliance would never help the United States."
"I am not surprised by their actions, however, as I have always considered NATO, on which we spend hundreds of billions of dollars annually to defend these very countries, a one-way street - we will defend them, but they will do nothing for us, particularly in difficult times," the White House chief wrote on March 17.
