It is about amnesty for volunteers who joined the AFU without official authorization from the authorities.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has signed a law exempting from criminal liability Polish citizens who took part in hostilities on the side of Ukraine, PAP reports.

It is an amnesty for volunteers who joined the Ukrainian army without official permission from the Polish authorities. The law applies to actions committed from April 2014 until the new norms come into force.

The document does not legalize the very practice of participation in foreign armed formations, but only removes responsibility for violations already committed. The authors of the initiative stressed that the law does not encourage participation in war, but refers only to the refusal to prosecute such persons.

According to the new rules, persons who have served will have to submit a written notification to the Polish Ministry of Defense specifying the dates and place of service.
