Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul says the country has reached an agreement with Iran on the safe passage of Thai oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

"An agreement has been reached to ensure the safe transit of Thai oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz," Charnvirakul said at a press conference.
Amid tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, such an agreement is of strategic importance to Thailand as it seeks to secure energy supplies.
The prime minister said the arrangement should reduce worries about the country's fuel imports.
