Orban's Defeat Could Be Even More Crushing

The Hungarian opposition is leading even in districts where Fidesz regularly won.
The opposition Tisa party has a high chance of defeating the ruling Fidesz party's perennial deputies in a number of constituencies where previously Viktor Orban's party candidates regularly won with high results.
This is according to the results of polls by Research Center 21 commissioned by the Tisa party, reports European Pravda.
According to the published data, the opposition candidates are leading even in some constituencies, where four years ago the representatives of Fidesz won a convincing victory with more than 50% of the votes.
The situation is disappointing for Viktor Orbán's party candidates in Baja, Székesfegervar, Miskolc, Pécs, as well as in several districts around Budapest.
The biggest surprise was the district in Baja (Bacs-Kiskun 6), where Fidesz representative Robert Gigot has not lost in any election since 1998. In 2022, he beat the opposition by 24.5 percentage points. However, fresh polls show that he is now behind Tisza candidate Benza Czontosz. Among those who have made up their minds, the gap is 49% versus 45% in favor of the opposition candidate.
The polls note a rapid change in electoral sympathies in the last period before the election. For example, in the town of Dabash (Pest 13), there was a virtual tie between the candidates at the end of February. However, during March, the rating of the Tisa representative increased by 6 points, while the support for the government candidate fell.
Experts note that the Fidesz party found itself in a difficult situation, despite the fact that it fielded incumbent MPs in almost all districts. Although they are much better known than their opponents from Tisa, the demand for change was strong.
The polls were conducted by telephone interview in February and March 2026. The sample in the districts ranged from 600 to 800 people, with a margin of error of 4%.
