What is known.

The United States is working with Greenland and NATO on a deal, the White House told The New York Times. It said the deal would be "astonishing for the United States."

The White House responded to the newspaper's inquiry related to reports from Denmark's national broadcaster. According to the latter, three US citizens with ties to President Donald Trump were conducting "covert influence operations" in Greenland. According to the NYT, the men are entrepreneur Drew Horne, founder of the Bikers for Trump club Chris Cox, and Mr. Trump's Arctic adviser Thomas Duns. The White House declined to comment on its association with the men or their activities.

Donald Trump has repeatedly said Greenland should become part of the United States, explaining it is for national security reasons. In January, he discussed the topic with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. According to Axios, the meeting mentioned the possibility of an agreement in which the U.S. would increase its military presence on the island and receive mining privileges. According to Bloomberg, this agreement includes the deployment of U.S. missiles in Greenland.
