Scandalous Tax Changes Are Being Prepared In Belarus

Officials plan to change the tax system by introducing a mechanism of indexation of rates tied to the Belarusian ruble. Such an initiative is included in the plan of draft laws for 2026.

It's about adjusting the tax rates fixed in rubles to inflation. Details of the novation are not disclosed yet.

Now the rates in Belarusian rubles are applied, in particular, to taxes on real estate, land and transportation. Their size is usually approved at the end of the year for the next period. For example, in Minsk, the tax on the first apartment for 2026 increased by 6.8%, while in the regional centers and Minsk district - by 6.7%. At the same time, the authorities expect that inflation will not exceed 7% this year.

The new system is supposed to allow a faster response to inflationary changes: in case of their sharp growth, the rates will be able to be indexed additionally, which will actually make it possible to raise taxes more actively than previously planned.

The justification of the initiative notes that it is supposedly aimed at further improving the tax legislation.
