London will try to mend relations with Washington.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will pay a state visit to Washington in late April. This came to light amid a sharp deterioration in relations between Donald Trump and British Prime Minister King Starmer, whom the US president criticized for what he considers insufficient support for the war against Iran.
It is reported that a banquet will be held in honor of Charles at the White House, the king will also address the US Congress. Other details of the program are still being specified. On the way back, the monarch will visit Bermuda, a British overseas territory in the Atlantic Ocean.
Trump said on social media that the visit to the US will take place from April 27 to 30, and its program will include "a wonderful banquet dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28."
The British government decides on the king's state visits. The official announcement of the trip was delayed amid tensions between the two countries over the war with Iran, although practical preparations have been ongoing all along.
This year the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence from Britain.
According to BBC reports, the king has no plans to meet his youngest son, Prince Harry, who lives in the United States and has a strained relationship with the royal family.
